Challenger 400 and 400LX

Looking for a utility vehicle? Want the quality of a Cub Cadet but don’t want to spend a lot of money? The Challenger 400 and 400LX offer compact platforms with plenty of utility, whether you’re looking for a quick way to travel across your land, a light towing platform, or something to help with groundskeeping.

What is a Challenger 400?

The 400 is the smallest utility vehicle in Cub Cadet’s lineup. At 96 inches long, 50 inches wide and 71 inches tall, it can get into tight spaces yet still provides plenty of performance. In fact, it’s small enough that it can fit in a standard pickup bed, eliminating the need for a trailer to bring it to work sites.

Power is provided by a 404 cc Subaru EX40 air-cooled engine that produces 14 horsepower and 19.9 ft-lbs. of torque. This motor is attached to an enclosed CVT to keep the engine running at peak power and allows the 400 to reach a maximum speed of 25 mph. This UTV is two-wheel drive, but the rear differential is lockable to help cross rough terrain. Both the front and rear suspension use coil-over shocks and springs with 5 inches of travel, and the vehicle comes from the factory with a set of off-road tires. The total weight is around 940 lbs.

The 400 has seating for a driver and passenger. Behind the seats, there’s a dump bed measuring 27 x 37 x 12 inches with a payload maximum of 350 lbs. The 400 can tow up to 500 lbs.

The entire utility vehicle including the motor is covered by a one year limited warranty.

What’s the difference between the 400 and 400LX?

The Challenger 400LX comes standard with a full length windshield, roof, headrests and alloy wheels. If you decide to buy a regular Challenger 400, all of these features can also be added later.

Challenger Accessories

The Challenger 400 is a solid basic package, but there are plenty of bolt-on accessories available to help your utility vehicle fit your needs. Here’s what Cub Cadet currently offers:

  • A 54-watt LED light bar that fits above the roll bar

  • 2,000 lb. front mount winch
  • A hard roof
  • Full length and folding windshields
  • A rear zippered dust shield/window
  • A 58-inch snow blade with 50 degrees of pivot
