Cub Cadet has completely redesigned their XT1 and XT2 lines, bringing the brand’s reputation for high quality construction together with major advances in usability. The new GT50, sitting in the middle of the lineup, gets several innovative features make the tractor easier to use and easier to maintain.
Keep Track of Maintenance on Your Smartphone
Tractors may not be the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning the Consumer Electronics Show, but Cub Cadet was featured in the Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards in the Breakthrough Applications category for their new Cub Connect app.
Instead of having to keep track of the hour meter and referencing the user manual for maintenance times, the app can get data from the tractor and alert you when it’s time to change fluids or replace filters. From there, you can get whatever you need to keep your tractor’s maintenance up to date from www.cubparts.com. The app also displays the full user manual, showing you what you need to do to get your tractor back into action.
Getting Around
Power is provided by a Kohler 7000 Series professional grade V twin engine overhead valves producing 25 hp. It transfers power to the rear wheels using a Tuff Torq K58 Heavy Duty hydrostatic transmission. There are no gears to shift, one inch axle shafts and high strength gears ensure durability, and cruise control helps the tractor keep consistent speeds. The mower can reach speeds up to 6.2 mph going forward and 3.1 mph in reverse. Stopping is handled by an automotive-style disc brake on the rear axle. Together with the GT50’s 12 inch turning radius, it’s one of the easiest to drive tractors on the market.
Cutting Grass
Mowing is handled by a 50 inch wide three blade deck that has twelve height settings ranging from one to four inches. Cub Cadet’s SmartJet system makes cleaning the deck as simple as screwing in a hose, and the QuickAttach mounting system means the deck can be taken off without tools. The blades are mounted on 3/4 inch spindles use triple lip seals to keep the dirt out.
Durable Construction
All welding on the frame is done by robots for precision, and a new e-coating process uses an electric charge to draw paint to the frame’s surface giving it even coverage to prevent corrosion.
More Comfort, Better Vision
The new Cub Comfort high-back seat slides and has up to 10 degree of incline for operator comfort, while the wheel has been repositioned for a more natural position when driving the tractor. Standard headlights have been replaced by LED units that last several times longer while improving visibility.
Accessories
Arm rests are available for the GT50, but it’s the rest of the accessory lineup that make this tractor more than a simple mower.
Want a garden tractor that can be used in the winter? The XT1 can be fitted with a 46 inch blade for moving snow piles and a 42 inch three stage snow blower for big jobs. Need more traction? Add some weight to the rear end using a 42 lb. removable suitcase kit or the 60 lb. weight kit.
Add a mulch kit and the new blades will finely chop clippings and returns it to the ground to insulate and fertilize the grass. Need to collect the clippings instead? The tractor can be fitted with a 6 bushel triple bagger.
The GT50 can be used for pulling trailers with the addition of the sleeve hitch kit. Cub Cadet even offers a broadcast spreader trailer which can be used to spread ice melt, fertilizer or seed.
