The XT3 may be the smallest of Cub Cadet’s new Enduro Series tractors, but this garden tractor retains all the advanced design and durable construction of the commercial-focused models. The GSE sits between the GS and GSX versions of this tractor, providing the GSX’s electric features to those who don’t need a 60 inch deck or locking rear differential.
Drivetrain
Power is provided by a 673cc OHV V-Twin Kohler Command engine producing 22.5 hp. The motor is linked to a Hydro-Gear hydrostatic transmission via a solid drive shaft, and the alternator is driven directly by the flywheel, eliminating the need for belts. The XT3 has a maximum speed of 6.5 mph. Thanks to Cub Cadet’s RevTek system, it can also mow in reverse at speeds up to 3.5 mph while still meeting ANSI safety standards.
Deck Options
The GSE doesn’t come with a deck, letting owners order one separately to fit their needs. The company offers 5 options for this mower including stamped decks in 42, 50 and 54 inch widths and fabricated decks in 48 and 54 inch widths. Have jobs that need the durability of a fabricated deck and others that need the precise finish of a stamped deck? All of these decks use the QuickAttach system which requires no tools to remove or install the deck, making it easy to switch between models. The XT series also comes with Cub Cadet’s new Muscular Cutting System, a new belt and pulley design and deck shape that provides even power and high efficiency to every blade for improved cutting performance.
The deck can be moved using the electric lift system into five positions from 1.5 to 4 inches high. Cleanup is as simple as hooking up a hose to the SmartJet washing system and letting the high-pressure jets quickly and completely rinse out the deck.
Comfort
The GSE comes with electric power steering and an 18 inch steering radius, making it exceptionally easy to maneuver, while the electrically operated PTO switch and deck height adjuster makes it less of a chore to get the tractor into action. Speed can be controlled directly with a foot lever or set using the cruise control.
As with all Cub Cadets, a lot of thought went into the ergonomics of this tractor. The GSE comes with a high-backed seat with arm rests that can be moved 6 inches. The seat rails are mounted at an angle so that moving the seat back also moves it up, maintaining a comfortable position for the operator regardless of height. The steering wheel has also been repositioned in relation to the seat for improved comfort.
Durability
The XT3 is built around a robotically-welded twin C-channel frame for unparalleled strength. It is then painted using electrodeposition or “E-Coat” which provides even coverage in even the smallest spaces for superior corrosion resistance. The front end is protected from scrapes by a steel bumper, while the composite hood can withstand impacts from brush and branches. Automotive-style ball joints on the steering rack, machined bearings, solid steel pulleys and steel axles further ensure reliability.
Cub Cadet backs up this heavy duty approach to construction with the best warranty in this category: three years for the entire tractor, 5 years on the chassis & front axle and a limited lifetime warranty on fabricated deck shells. All three warranties cover the XT3 no matter how many hours it has been used.
Accessories
The decks can be fit with a mulching kit or a bagging kit depending on the needs of the turf. The XT3 can also be used to clear snow by mounting a 46 inch snow blade.
Cub Cadet also offers trailers and a broadcast spreader that attach to the XT3’s sleeve hitch. The spreader is designed to handle a wide range of materials including ice melt, seed and fertilizer.
